ArticlesAbstract
The rapid growth of Internet of Things (IoT) sensor networks has increased the need for energy-independent operation, as conventional battery-powered systems face scalability and maintenance challenges. This study proposes a conceptual framework for self-powered IoT sensor nodes using quantum coherence harvesting from ambient electromagnetic (EM) noise. Inspired by Environment-Assisted Quantum Transport (ENAQT), the framework integrates metasurface-based RF energy harvesting, simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT), nanogenerators, and low-power wireless sensor networks. Reported results include over 52% microwave rectification efficiency, up to 310 μW harvested power per node in SWIPT systems, a 28% enhancement in coherence lifetime through ENAQT, and over 180 μW from hybrid IoT energy harvesters. The study highlights the potential of combining quantum coherence, advanced rectenna designs, and low-power networking to enable scalable self-powered IoT systems, while addressing challenges related to coherence time, impedance matching, and energy management.
