  • Abstract

Social media has emerged as a transformative digital platform that significantly contributes to economic development by facilitating communication, enhancing business visibility, promoting innovation, and accelerating digital commerce. The rapid adoption of social networking platforms has reshaped consumer behavior, enabling enterprises of all sizes to reach broader markets with reduced operational costs. Digital economies increasingly rely on social media ecosystems to strengthen customer engagement, support entrepreneurial ventures, improve financial inclusion, and promote data-driven decision-making. Moreover, the integration of artificial intelligence, big data analytics, cloud computing, and mobile technologies within social media platforms has created new opportunities for personalized marketing, digital advertising, influencer-driven commerce, and customer relationship management. Governments and policymakers also leverage social media for promoting digital initiatives, supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and encouraging digital literacy among citizens. However, challenges including cybersecurity threats, misinformation, privacy concerns, digital inequality, and regulatory complexities continue to influence sustainable digital economic growth. This study explores the multifaceted role of social media in strengthening digital economic ecosystems through an extensive review of existing research and a conceptual analytical framework. The paper highlights key economic drivers, technological enablers, and strategic implications that demonstrate how social media contributes to innovation, employment generation, digital entrepreneurship, and long-term economic resilience. The findings emphasize that effective governance, responsible platform management, and continuous technological innovation are essential for maximizing the economic benefits of social media while ensuring sustainable and inclusive digital development.
