Complexity is a feature of modern distributed systems, especially when you include cloud-native and microservice architectures. The operational requirements of such systems have turned to observability instead of more traditional monitoring techniques. This research provides a comprehensive observability platform using Prometheus, Grafana and ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana) to improve visibility, monitoring and debugging. Prometheus is used to collect data in real time for monitoring and alerting on performance Grafana can provide visual analytics and interactive dashboards for the analysis of trends of system health and performance. The ELK Stack platform provides log collection, storage, and analysis capabilities. These functionalities are additionally increased by ELK stack and you will be able to study system faults and events in a more effective way. The end-to-end observability platform that integrates metrics-based observability with log analytics will enable users to identify issues, respond to incidents promptly, and oversee systems proactively. We use a case study of a microservice-based e-commerce application deployed on Kubernetes to analyze key performance metrics such as latency, error rates, resource consumption and service availability. The results show significant time savings leading to significantly better detection of occurrences, efficiency of root cause analysis and overall operational visibility. It’s also a scalable, lower cost-to-own solution from end to end. It’s a good fit for challenging dispersed environments and helps companies maintain consistency and performance across the board. The report also discusses possible future research directions in the field, including the development of distributed tracing technologies and AI-based anomaly detection systems. The research also points out the role of end-to-end observability in enabling system resilience.
