  • Abstract

    Data Mesh is an emerging architectural paradigm aimed at addressing the complexities of scaling data management in large, decentralized organizations. With the rapid expansion of data and its increasing domain-specific nature, enforcing consistent data access policies across multiple domains has become one of the critical challenges for data governance. This paper explores the complexities and methodologies for implementing cross-domain policy enforcement within a Data Mesh system, where data ownership and access are distributed among different business units. We provide a detailed analysis of the issues surrounding data access, security, and compliance in such an architecture. Furthermore, we propose a novel framework for managing and enforcing cross-domain policies in a federated data governance context, leveraging existing access control models and modern policy enforcement technologies. Through case studies and real-world examples, we illustrate the challenges and solutions in maintaining security, transparency, and compliance in Data Mesh systems. The paper concludes with a discussion of future directions for research and development in cross-domain policy enforcement, emphasizing scalability, consistency, and the integration of new technologies.
