  • Abstract

    Human–Technology Interaction (HTI) has significantly transformed how people think, learn, and make decisions. The widespread use of digital technologies such as smartphones and artificial intelligence has introduced both benefits and challenges to cognitive behavior. While technology enhances efficiency through “cognitive offloading” (relying on devices for memory and information), it also raises concerns about reduced attention span, memory retention, and deeper thinking abilities. Modern technology encourages multitasking and rapid information processing, often leading to decreased focus and increased cognitive load. Interface design plays a key role—well-designed systems can improve learning and engagement, while poorly designed ones may cause cognitive overload and decision fatigue. Additionally, AI-driven systems increasingly influence human decision-making. Using a mixed-methods approach, this study finds that moderate, intentional technology use can improve problem-solving and information access, whereas excessive, unstructured use negatively affects cognitive performance. The paper proposes a framework combining cognitive psychology and human-computer interaction, emphasizing user-centered design and cognitive well-being. In conclusion, HTI offers major advantages but also poses risks. Balanced and thoughtful use of technology is essential to ensure it supports, rather than weakens, human cognition.
