Duties of Reviewers
- Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Reviewers support editors by providing objective evaluations that help validate the quality, originality, and relevance of the manuscript.
- Prompt Response
Reviewers unable to evaluate a manuscript—or unable to complete the review on time—must inform the editor immediately.
- Confidentiality
Manuscripts under review must not be shared, discussed, or distributed without editorial permission.
- Objectivity
Reviews must be constructive, focused on scientific content, and free from personal criticism.
Feedback should be supported with clear arguments.
- Identifying Sources
Reviewers should alert editors to:
- Missing citations
- Overlapping work
- Potential plagiarism
- Incorrect attributions
- Conflicts of Interest
Reviewers must decline reviews where conflicts exist involving:
- Collaboration
- Competition
- Personal relationships
- Institutional or financial ties
Privileged information gained from peer review must not be used for personal benefit.
